All the Fun on Tunbridge Wells Fairtrade

We are a Fairtrade Town!

If you drive into Tunbridge Wells you may notice the Fairtrade Town sign by the roadside. The purpose of a Fairtrade Town is to contribute to the Fairtrade Foundation’s aim of tackling poverty by enabling disadvantaged producers from poorer countries to receive a better deal. You can support us, and more importantly support third world farmers, by looking out for the FAIRTRADE Mark when you are shopping.

To be a Fairtrade Town, five goals must be achieved and certificated by the Fairtrade Foundation. We are proud that Tunbridge Wells met these goals and became a Fairtrade Town in 2007.

On May 10th 2015, which is World Fairtrade Day, we are holding a Fairtrade Market showcasing the wide range of goods and produce that now carry the Fairtrade logo. Come and take part, sample the fare and experience what being a Fairtrade Town can do for people and businesses alike.

The event will be held in the middle of the Farmers Market which opens as usual at 9.00am. You will have the opportunity to browse Fairtrade stalls and find out about the fantastic variety of Fairtrade goods, in addition to the local produce which is always available at the Farmers market.

Just a few of the things going on:
  • Pancake Creations competition
  • Flip for fairtrade - How many pancake flips can you do in 30 seconds?
  • Stalls and Fairtrade goods on sale
  • Decorations created by the children from multiple primary schools around Tunbridge Wells
  • Create your own Fairtrade smoothies - The Change for Life team will be there with their smoothie making bicycle

Pancake Creations - the Great Fairtrade Bake-off!

The Bake-off will be held outside the Town Hall between 9.30 and 1.00 on Saturday.
Anyone can join in - groups, schools or just individuals who fancy having a go - but we would like you to register beforehand, just so we know who will be taking part. It will be a competition to make the best pancake and filling, based on your own, or even your great granny's, recipe, but using Fairtrade ingredients ... and there will be prizes - all Fairtrade of course!
