Tunbridge Wells Fair Trade Blog
tunbridge wells show we are proud to be a fairtrade town
We have seen the exciting launch of the Tunbridge Wells Fairtrade Town signs taking pride of place around the entrances to the town. We are very excited to see these signs making a statement around Tunbridge Wells.
We are a proud to be able to continue to push for a better economy with fair values starting from the production of our products. This is another step towards a fair future ensuring the lively-hoods of the suppliers.
This wouldn't have been possible without the support from the Council, Suppliers, Shops, Buisnesses, Schools and its People purchasing and selling Fairtrade products and showing their support for fair justice.
Perhaps not everyone has known that Tunbridge Wells has been a Fairtrade Town for nearly 10 years, but now nobody will be left in any doubt, thanks to the launch of the Fairtrade Town signs which proudly announce the fact at the gateways to the town. We're very grateful to the Borough Council for introducing these signs to mark our first decade.
We continue to press for a fairer future for those in the developing world who supply so much of our food and other products. Our campaign would not be possible without the support of the Borough Council, local shops, businesses, schools and of course the customers who buy Fairtrade products.
Why Fairtrade?
Farmers in developing countries work hard to secure a living and support their families, only to see the fruits of their labour swallowed up by unjust global trading systems. These allow multinationals to flood the markets with cheaper produce, eventually forcing them out of business. They sink deeper into the spiral of debt and poverty in their struggle to survive.
The Fairtrade Foundation works with farmers, guaranteeing a fair price for their produce, plus a social premium for business or community development. By supporting these producers we are standing up for justice in the market place. Simply by using our consumer power we can change the world for the better.
